YGAM and Betknowmore UK have agreed to form a strategic alliance to collaborate and share expertise. Both organisations are relative newcomers to the UK’s education and treatment sector for people who have an interest in, or have experienced gambling-related harm.
YGAM is a UK-Registered Charity which has a principle focus on building digital resilience and raising awareness of the potential risks of gambling or gaming-related harm among young people. YGAM deliver this by training teachers, youth works and other professionals who have influence over young people’s learning using their PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic) Association quality-assured and Ofqual Awarding Body, ASDAN, accredited educational resources.
Betknowmore UK is a non-profit, social enterprise whose mission is to provide support, mentoring and care for those suffering personal difficulty caused by their problematic gambling or addiction. One-to-one support is provided through their outreach programme which provides tailored and holistic outreach support to clients to build structure and clarity in their recovery away from gambling dependency. Betknowmore UK’s outreach programme has achieved the Mentoring & Befriending Foundation APS quality-assured kite-mark.
Both YGAM and Betknowmore UK have committed to undertake the following work during 2017:
- The Founders & Chief Executives of both YGAM and Betknowmore UK have agreed to formally join each other’s Trustee boards to share expertise.
- Both organisations have committed to undertake fundraising, with YGAM having a focus on preventive education and Betknowmore UK supporting young people or their families who may be affected by gambling or gaming-related harm.
- Both organisations will work together to deliver a specific conference around young people’s digital resilience and mental health, through the lens of gambling and gaming.
- Both organisations have agreed to undertake joint branding and marketing of our services.
Lee Willows, Founder & Chief Executive of YGAM said ‘I have had the pleasure of working with Frankie Graham, the Founder & Chief Executive of Betknowmore UK for over two years now. We have the same shared experience of establishing our respective organisations and have worked together, in a careful manner as to not replicate what each other offers. Therefore, agreeing to a strategic alliance was a straight forward decision and for the local communities in which we work, provides a cost effective and joined up service'.
Frankie Graham, Founder & Chief Executive of Betknowmore UK said ‘Lee Willows has been both a generous supporter and advisor to Betknowmore UK, his experience and expertise helping to establish our services. The UK gambling support and education sector faces many challenges as it seeks to grow and provide new services to address gambling related harm. Partnerships and co-production of services are essential for building capacity and scaling our work. We are delighted to form this strategic alliance and look forward to continued progress and achievement'.
